The Great Debate 2019
This year's debating competition, 'The Great Debate', saw some persuasive arguments from Years 5 and 6 'for' and 'against' a number of topical issues. Ten schools took part this year: Bush Hill Park Primary, Forty Hill CE Primary, George Spicer Primary, Hadley Wood Primary, Prince of Wales Primary, St Andrew's CE (Enfield) Primary, St Andrew's CE (Southgate) Primary, St John's CE Primary, St Michael's CE Primary and Worcesters Primary. The event was judged by two local magistrates and three sixth form pupils from Chace Community School. We thank all for their contribution to this event.
The aim of the event was: to develop pupils' thinking skills which are essential for forming independent opinions and supporting these with sound, persuasive arguments; to develop pupils' speaking and listening skills and to improve pupil engagement in current affairs.
Our three semi-finalists George Spicer Primary, Prince of Wales Primary and St Michael's CE Primary delivered some outstanding debates in a prestigious venue - Enfield Council's Chambers. The winners were Prince of Wales Primary.
